Have Never Married

Oprah Winfrey – Age: 65   

This media mogul has been ranked the richest African-American of the 21st century, the greatest black philanthropist in American history, and was for a time the world’s only black billionaire. She is also considered by many to be the most influential woman in the world. She has never married and according to her is not interested.  She and Stedman Graham got engaged in l992, but have never married.  She told Larry King once in an interview when he asked if they would ever marry.  “I will say that our relationship has gotten… increasingly better over the years in terms of our bonding and supporting one another.  It was only important to me to be wanted enough to be married.”  She once said in an interview overseas, “ I’m too old now for marriage and I’m glad I live in a country that allows me to have the choice of not marrying. If I would have married, Stedman would have been a wonderful husband, but I’ll be honest that we would have been divorced by now.  I’m my own person, and I find it difficult to conform to other people’s ideas about me. And being married does call for some conformity. “ 

Nia Long – Age: 49   

She is an actress and the mother of two sons.  Nia Long and the former basketball star Ime Udoka may have two children together, but the actress says that she and her longtime boyfriend aren’t in a hurry to get hitched.  She says that marriage is “not a priority” for her, but she didn’t discount the possibility of marriage entirely. For now, Long says that her family is content with things as they are. Besides that, as far as she has seen, marriage doesn’t work. “I’ll be at home with my man, having a perfectly loving time, and I’ll see all these comments on some site about how wrong I am for not being married,” Long added in the interview. “I don’t feel less loved or less loving because I’m not married.”

Condoleeza Rice – Age: 65 

She is an American political scientist and diplomat. She also served as the 66th United States Secretary Of State.  Rice was the first female African-American Secretary Of State.  In addition, she was President Bush’s National Security Advisor during his first term, making her the first woman to serve in that position.  The never-married diplomat’s personal life has always been a mystery, but she has often been engaged to Rick Upchurch, a former NFL player.  However, she has always maintained that he was just a friend.  Her comments on marriage: “I’ve just never found anybody that I was going to spend my life with,” she says. “You don’t get married in the abstract. You should find someone you’d like to be married to.  I’ve come close, but I won’t say how many timesAn interviewer once asked the question, “Would you consider that you’ve lived a fulfilled life if you never get married or have kids?   She answered, “Yeah, I will. I won’t have kids, but I may still get married. But I would have lived a very fulfilled life if I had gotten married and had kids, too.  I’m very religious and I at some very deep level believe that things are going to work out as they’re supposed to. The key is to be open to that and to appreciate the life that you’ve been given.”

Diane KeatonAge: 74 

This two time Academy Award winner for Best Actress has never married and says she’s no longer interested.  She is a single parent, who adopted two sons, and she has dated Woody Allen and Warren Beatty.  However, she says the true love of her life was Al Pacino with whom she felt she blew it by giving him an ultimatum to marry her.    Here are her comments on middle-age marriage “Too much of my life was spent waiting to be seen. Hoping to be seen, hoping to be picked. Once you realize that you aren’t looked at that way anymore, other things start to happen and you have to depend on other things to get by. I have never had a trusting relationship with a man and trust is where the real power is in a relationship.”

Tyra BanksAge: 46

Tyra is a former American supermodel, a single parent, and a noted media personality. She first became famous as a model, appearing twice on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue. She is also the creator and host of the reality show America’s Top Model. Though she has never been married, she was once linked to director John Singleton, former basketball star Rick Fox, and Drake.  On the Piers Morgan show, she once said, “I do want to have children and I don’t think it’s necessarily necessary to get married before having a baby.”  She caused a serious stir in dialogue with that comment.  The church went up in arms, but there were many who agreed with her. Banks dated Norwegian photographer Erik Asla during the 2010s, and in January 2016 they had a biological son born via surrogate.


Sheryl Crow Age: 57

Sheryl s a singer, songwriter, musician, multi-instrumentalist, record producer and political activist. She has been engaged three times but claims to be living her best life.  The never-married singer used to date Owen Wilson and was once engaged to cyclist Lance Armstrong.  She is also a single parent, who adopted two boys. Sources close to the singer claim she is very comfortable with being unmarried and raising her boys, but definitely open if the right guy comes along.

Naomi Campbell – Age: 49

In 1993, she became engaged to U2 bassist Adam Clayton. They met in February of that year, after Clayton, when asked in an interview if there was anything in the world he desired but did not have, responded: “A date with Naomi Campbell”. Campbell and Clayton separated the following year.  In 1998, she became engaged to Formula One racing head Flavio Briatore;  they were involved in an on-again-off-again relationship until their separation in 2003. From 2008 until 2013, she was in a relationship with Russian billionaire Vladislav Doronin.
