Name: April Dominique Preyar Occupation: Attorney, Know your rights educator, Adjunct law professor and Gameboard designer

Two Words That Describe Me Best: outspoken and creative
Three words that best describe my work ethic: ebbs and flows Two words co-workers would use to describe me: I don’t have co-workers. I’m the boss. My employees would probably say I’m mean and elusive. Your current state of mind: restless If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be? I’d have a faster metabolism so I could eat more chocolate. What do you consider your greatest achievement? Becoming comfortable in my own skin.
What is the quality you like most in a man? kindness
What is the quality you like most in a friend? humor
What is your greatest extravagance? travel
The three people I admire most: I only have 2: my mom and dad
I’m passionate about: keeping young Black men and boys out of prison
It bothers me when: people speak to me like I’m a child.
The best thing to happen to me: was being raised in a neighborhood full of married, two-parent households, with a bunch of kids around my age. I grew up with a village of bonus parents, discipline, love and I gained lifelong friendships as a result.
Most humbling experience: learning to care for my mother over the last year.
Lesson Learned This Year: that life can change in an instant and you simply have to adapt.
Favorite Thing To Do On A Date: kiss
I’m happiest when I: am speaking in front of a crowd of teenagers.
What I like most about being single: I can do what I want, when I want without having to check in or run it by anyone.
What I like least: getting random “GM” or “WYD” texts and inboxes from dudes I barely know and have never expressed an interest in.
A deal breaker for me is: not making time for me.
Latest accomplishment: I created a board game, called “Trials & Triumph,” to teach people how to avoid the criminal justice system, how to survive a police encounter and how to make it home safely. The board game has been featured on ABC News Chicago, WVON Radio Chicago and in the ABA (American Bar Association) Journal.
