Regret
Chris was miserable as he stared out the window. He had left his wife for another woman and now that the divorce was final, he was about to marry her. He felt confused and disoriented with his current state of affairs.
Discontentment had been plaguing him for months now. On the outside, all seemed well. He was busy, enjoying a great career, and was hopelessly in love or so he thought.
He had begun to worry about his three children and how they would fare without him around. In his head, he loved Marcia, but he couldn’t live with his love. The guilt from his actions was beginning to strangle his feelings and twist his perspective.
He had always felt that because real love was so hard to come by, one should never sacrifice it for the constraints of marriage. Thus, even though he was married with children when Marcia came into his life, he forsook all and walked away with her leaving his wife heartbroken.
He was happy for a while but only superficially. As the wedding date inched near, he sought a peace that was not forthcoming. On the eve of the wedding, he was on a plane to California to start over, alone. He had left Marcia a note of regret and a check reimbursing her for her $2000 wedding gown.
He thought about how his mother was right…that he didn’t know what he wanted. But, as the plane lifted high into the clouds, he began to look forward to a new beginning which he hoped would give him a new perspective. He just hoped that Marcia would forgive him. He felt peace at last. He realized that he was better off being single and alone with no one having expectations of him.
