The Bequest

When Anne met Tony, it was in the lawyer’s office where Tony’s mother’s will was being read.  Anne had never met Tony and was shocked that she had been called to the reading.  His mother had been her favorite patient at the nursing home where she worked as a nurse, and she had been very fond of her.

When her patient passed away, Anne was stunned to learn she was a very wealthy woman and was even more shocked when she was invited to the reading of the will.

 

When she walked into the room, she was so taken aback by Tony’s good looks that she accidentally bumped into a glass door.  By the time she sat down, she was thoroughly embarrassed.  When her name was read, as the recipient of $350,000 from Tony’s mother’s estate, her embarrassment turned to shock and she fainted.  When she came to, she was babbling with joy and Tony was leaning over her holding a glass of water and smiling.

When the meeting was over, he invited her to lunch, and she readily agreed.  He told her that he wanted to know more about her and how she had impacted his mother’s life.   After lunch, they exchanged numbers and he called her that same evening. They began talking nightly and soon they were dating.  On one of their dates, Tony confessed to her that his mother had often spoken of her, and how she wished they would meet.

Three weeks after they met, without a plan, they eloped to Mexico.  Six weeks later, Anne quit her job at the nursing home and moved to South Africa with her new husband, who owned a cotton mill in Soweto.
