The Dating Chronicles
A Turn Of Events
The train was coming and Anna’s spirit was high as she anticipated climbing aboard. She had been planning all weekend for this day and her excitement was apparent. As the train drew nearer, her excitement increased. She knew the handsome stranger would be there, reading the morning paper and occasionally glancing up to look out of the window. She hoped he’d be looking out when she got on.
She had been watching him for a long time and was very curious about who he was. She had dressed every morning in anticipation of seeing him and being beautiful for him, but he never looked up when she passed. His head was always buried in a newspaper.
She would sit behind him, so she could watch him undetected, and had almost missed her stop a couple of times, staring at the back of his head. She was dying to meet him and had been wracking her brain to come up with a way, and now she finally had.
She decided that the next time she rode the train she would ask each passenger in her car, to participate in a “marketing poll,” that she had devised over the weekend. One of the questions asked about marital status and she hoped against hope that he would be single, and finally notice her.
But when she got on the train, she discovered he was not in his usual spot and she felt like crying. She plunked down in a seat and stared aimlessly out the window. At the next stop, another handsome stranger got on the train and sat down next to her. She decided to introduce herself as she reached for her pad. It turned out his name was Tom.
“Would you mind participating in a little survey for work while you ride?” “No I don’t mind,” he said, as he looked deep into her eyes. “Are you single, married, widowed, or divorced,” she asked. “Single” he replied with a flirtatious grin. “What about you?” “I’m single too,” she replied as her heart skipped a beat. She began to feel better.
She could tell from the way he looked at her, that the angels had sent him to ease her disappointment. And she was right. As the train flew at high speed down the tracks, he asked for her number and ended up inviting her to dinner the next evening. They married eleven months later.
