An Odyssey

As Dee walked up the stairs of the church, she felt foolish.  But she had to see for herself.  She had heard that her ex-boyfriend Kyle was getting married to the same woman who had been her nemesis for years.  Dee was convinced that the only way her heart would be mended was to witness the act, so she could once and for all be released from the bondage that had entrapped her for so long.

As she sat in the back of the crowded church, a tall, handsome stranger took the seat next to her.  She suddenly lost interest in the festivities, as he began talking to her in whispered tones.  He introduced himself as John, one of Kyle’s co-workers.  By the time, the wedding was over Dee and John had made plans to meet later for drinks.  In a matter of minutes, Dee’s mood changed from depression to excitement.

That night, drinks turned into dinner, and dinner evolved into a series of late-night meets, boat rides, and other exciting activities that succeeded in sweeping Dee off her feet.  Dee had never traveled out of the country, nor had she experienced half the things John introduced her to over the next several months.  Therefore, she was overwhelmed with joy when he invited her to fly with him to Paris for his birthday.

However, on the day of departure, Dee stood outside the lobby of her building waiting for John to pick her up for the airport.  But he never came, and she never heard from him again.
