The Dating Chronicles
The Engagement
Jack was engaged to be married in three months when he met Jodi at a party. He was honest about it from the beginning. They exchanged numbers under the flirtatious guise of some vague business proposition. Later, after several phone conversations, he asked her out to dinner, and she accepted excitedly.
She saw him as magnetic and she was not about to pass up an opportunity to be with someone whom she found intriguing. She knew he was taken, but in her mind, he was still a single man. She began to see him once a week and savored every moment.
When her friends challenged her rationale, she defended her actions. “He’s still single and I enjoy being with him. He’s engaged. I’m not. And I ain’t sleeping with him!”
However, a week before the wedding, after realizing that she was falling in love with Jack, Jodi suddenly dropped out of sight, and Jack couldn’t find her anywhere. She wouldn’t answer her phone or return his calls. She went out of town to her sister’s and arranged to return the Sunday after Jack’s wedding. She wanted it to be all over and done with upon her return. She had enjoyed their time together and resolved it in her mind as an experience she would never forget.
When she returned home on Sunday evening, she was shocked to see Jack sitting in his car in front of her apartment building. He confessed to her that he had been unable to go through with the wedding and that he had been waiting to tell her. He confessed that he had unexpectedly fallen in love with her. Three months later, they became engaged.
