What Would

You Do?

by Jovan Tahale

In relationships, how committed are you to being treated well?  How much will you tolerate when your trust or feelings aren’t respected?  Do you lack the courage to stand up for yourself, or are you cool under fire, and committed to your self-respect?  Those who are treated well and held in high regard have usually developed a high self-esteem level, inner peace, and a certain understanding that true respect is inspired and determined by what one is willing to tolerate or endure. Check out these examples...

Donna had been pinching herself all evening because she was finally out on a date with a handsome co-worker, whom she’d admired for a long time. They were at a party where he seemed to know everyone, and Donna was thrilled to be on his arm. As the evening wore on, she began to feel uncomfortable when he would greet others and talk extensively and never introduce her, but when he left their table, and deserted her for over thirty minutes, to dance with another woman, she got up and left.

When he called later that night with an apology, she explained to him that she had made a mistake in accepting his invitation, because she assumed that his good looks were attached to good manners, and she was done. He sent her a dozen roses every day for a solid week with a note begging for another chance, but she refused to go out with him again. What would you have done?

Sara had been dating Hank for about three weeks when she finally accepted an invitation to his home for dinner. She was soon sorry she’d come because every time his phone rang, he went into another room to answer it, though it was laying next to him. Then later, after she resisted his sexual advances, he fell asleep while they were watching a movie.  At 2:00 am, she woke him up to tell him she was leaving.  He asked that she lock the door behind her, and went back to sleep.  He didn’t walk her to the door or her car or call to see if she got home safe. When he called the next day, she told him to lose her number, and to take some classes on the correct way to act when you entertain a woman in your home.  She never saw him again. Do you agree with her actions?

Elaine decided to surprise her boyfriend by picking him up from work since his car was down. When she drove up, she saw him coming out of the building with a big grin on his face.  As she moved to blow her horn, she saw him greet and hug another woman, and then get into her car.  She assumed it was a co-worker offering him a lift, but when she pulled up next to the car, they were locked in a lip embrace. She blew the horn, and when he turned around, she waved and drove off.  Though he texted her over 50 messages explaining that the woman was just a pushy client whose advances he tolerated, she refused to talk to him or see him again. What would you have done?
