An Unlikely Attraction

Lisa was stunned when she first met Larry at her cousin’s engagement party.  Larry was her cousin’s fiancé.  When Lisa was introduced to Larry, their eyes connected like two light beams.  Lisa was so unnerved by her instant attraction to him; that she pretended to be ill and left the party an hour after she arrived.  After that, she avoided all family gatherings where she knew they would be, while she chased him out of her dreams every night.

Two months later, her cousin called and informed her that Larry had broken off their engagement. Lisa’s heart dropped to the pit of her stomach, as her cousin began to cry uncontrollably. Lisa felt sympathy and shame simultaneously, as she realized how she was just thinking about him when the phone rang.

When she hung up, she turned off the lights and stared into the darkness.  She couldn’t understand how she could become so discombobulated by a man she didn’t even know, and now he had broken her cousin’s heart.

When the phone rang again, she snatched it, ready to tell whoever it was that she didn’t feel like talking, but to her surprise it was Larry.  She held the phone in shocked silence, as he told her how he hadn’t been able to get her off his mind since they first met.  He explained that he couldn’t go through with the wedding to her cousin feeling what he felt for her.

Two hours later, they were having dinner in a quaint restaurant across town. Six months later, they flew to Las Vegas and got married.  Lisa’s cousin didn’t come to the wedding, and they haven’t spoken since.
