Dating Apps Or
Dating Traps

by Dani Phillips

Dating apps have changed the way society operates. People no longer feel as compelled to leave the house in order to meet that special someone. One of many issues with these apps is that it’s impossible to distinguish between people who are looking for a genuine relationship versus those just looking for casual sex. The fact that these interactions start over a form of social media makes them seem less real. People will say things to those whom they match that they would never say in person.

Dating apps are now the norm. An abundance of my friends has met their significant others from apps like Bumble, Tinder, and Hinge. Hearing success stories make everyone want to hop on the bandwagon and see what all the hype is about. So, how can you tell if the guy you’re chatting with is relationship material?    Here are some tips…

This may seem obvious, but I still feel as if I should start with this one. If within the first few messages the guy says something about wanting to hook up, then he most likely is using the app for just that. He wants a casual fling, which is fine, but if it’s not what you are looking for, stay clear.

If he only asks you to hang out when he’s drunk, he might just want a drunken one-night stand. Moreover, if every time he asks you to hang out he just wants you to come to his place, more specifically his bed, then he might not be looking for something long-term. On the other hand, if he wants to take you out for dinner, drinks, or a movie, that’s a great sign. It shows he might actually want to get to know you.

Lastly, don’t be afraid to just ask a guy straightforwardly what they are doing on this app. Ask if they are looking for a relationship or a fling. Obviously, they might just tell you whatever you want to hear, but over time you will learn how to decipher between the players and the princes.
