A State Of Confusion

Chris was still miserable as he stared out at the rain through the window of the airplane.  On the outside, all seemed well.  He was busy, enjoying a career and seemed hopelessly in love.  He loved Marcia, but he couldn’t live with his love, because guilt had begun to strangle his feelings and twist his perspective.  He had always felt that because love was so hard to come by, that one should never sacrifice love for social constraints.

Therefore, though he was married with three children, when Marcia came into his life, he forsook them all and walked away with her.   He was happy for a while, but only superficially.  He had felt assured that once they married, things would be better.  Unfortunately, he sought a peace that was not forthcoming.

He married Marcia and moved to California.  However, three months after the wedding, he was on a plane back to New York and back to the family he had left.  He had come to the realization that he couldn’t enjoy his life, with all the pain he had left behind him.  He was grateful that his ex-wife still loved him and was willing to forgive him and take him back.  He left Marcia a note because he couldn’t face telling her he was leaving.

Two months later, Chris was back in California begging Marcia to forgive him…and take him back, but she had filed divorce papers and refused to talk to him.
