The Dating Chronicles
A Day In The Life…

Sharon: Sharon had not wanted to go.  Though Audrey was her best friend, she didn’t enjoy being in the company of her sister, Candy.  She had been dying to get to Lon Rondale’s concert, but she didn’t appreciate the free tickets coming through Candy’s efforts.   At the packed concert, Candy had screamed like a madwoman that she wanted to be the mother of all Lon’s children, while Sharon crouched in total embarrassment.   However, when Candy produced backstage passes after the concert to meet the famous star, Sharon was suddenly glad to be in her company.

As they stood in a long line to enter the backstage door, Sharon’s excitement was mixed with nervousness.  She had been a fan of Lon Rondale’s for as long as she could remember and had always wanted to see him in person.   As the line inched closer to his dressing room, her stomach twisted in knots.  She fingered her business card in her pocket.

She had read once of a true story where a fan had pressed her business card in the hand of a famous rock star as he passed her getting into a limo.  She had written on the back of the card,”…if you ever get bored with the groupie scene, call me for some wholesome fun.  I know where all the great hot dog places are.” The next day, the star called and told her that hot dogs were his favorite food.  For two years, he would fly her into wherever he was performing, which was in some of the most exotic spots on earth, and then suddenly it was over. But it was a time she’d never forget.

Sharon decided to copy the girl’s method as she quickly wrote the same message on the back of her card.

Suddenly, the door to the dressing room opened and Lon walked out holding the hand of a beautiful woman.  Sharon’s heart stopped as she stared at the handsome star.  Candy moved forward boldly, “Hey Lon, we’re the official welcoming committee of Boston.  Welcome to our town.  This is my sister Audrey and her friend Sharon.”   Sharon was speechless as Lon shook hands first with Audrey, and then with Candy.  As he reached for Sharon’s hand, she could only nod.  However, she was alert enough to put her card in his hand.  Their eyes met and he flashed a wide smile of approval.  She blushed.  She knew she was pretty, but not as pretty as the girl on his arm.

Sharon sighed heavily as he put the card in his pocket without looking at it and walked away still holding the woman’s hand.  She grinned all the way home and dreamed about him calling and inviting her to cruise with him to the Mediterranean.  The next day he did.

Lon:  It was almost midnight and the plane, this time, was nearly empty compared to last time.  Lon missed the noise.  Some of the members of his entourage had taken an earlier plane and without the loud camaraderie that usually took place, the cabin seemed like a leather-lined cave in the darkness.

As he stared out the window into the night, he suddenly remembered the card in his pocket.  When he read the card, he chuckled at the witty message and recalled the beautiful brown eyes of the woman who handed it to him the night before. Impulsively, he dialed the number.  He apologized for calling so late.  The next day Sharon was picked up in a limo and flown to Spain at his invitation.
