The Best Marriage
Proposals Ever!

by M.K. Allison

In spite of all the forlorn statistics on finding a husband in today’s world, women are still being proposed to, and men are being far more creative in popping the question.  Many are going all out to succeed in making it memorable. Here are a few…

SHERRY:  “When my boyfriend proposed, it was the last thing I would have expected, at the time it happened, because we were in the middle of an argument.  We were on our way to the movies, walking down the street towards the theater when I spotted my name on the marquee.  In the middle of a sentence that was intended to win the argument, I stopped with my mouth open and read the message. ‘To My Beloved Sherry, the time has come to make you my bride.  Love, Hank.’  I blinked back the tears, as I thought of how long I had waited for him to ask me to marry him.  He slipped the most beautiful ring on my hand, as we stood under the marquee to the applause of family and friends who suddenly appeared out of nowhere.”

VONNIE:  “On my birthday, my boyfriend of two months who was out of town on business had a box of candy delivered to me at work. When I opened the box to share with my co-workers, there was no candy, but another smaller box, wrapped in beautiful paper.  When I opened the box, I almost fainted.  A small diamond ring sat on the black velvet cushion with a note which read, ‘Our love is sweeter than candy and a diamond means forever.  There is more to come if your answer is yes.  Love, Bob.’  When I called to give him my yes, he answered his cell phone standing right outside my office with my boss standing next to him with a bunch of balloons that read, “Will you marry him?”

JEAN:  “My boyfriend proposed to me as he was delivering a speech to his college graduating class.  I was sitting in the audience and I remember how proud I felt that he was president of his class and that he belonged to me.  I was daydreaming about when and if he’d ever proposed and what it would be like.  We had been together for over two years, and as I tuned back in on the ending of his speech, I heard him say.  ‘Today is the beginning of a new life for me because I have earned my degree and the right to ask the woman I love for her hand in marriage.’   I got so excited I stood up in the audience and screamed.  ‘Yes!!!…before he could finish.  The audience roared with laughter. ”

BARBARA:  “I had been in the hospital and was at home recuperating.  It was summer and I spent a great deal of the day reclining on my apartment balcony.  This particular day, as I lay reading in my usual position, I heard some loud music down in the street below.  When I looked down, I saw a parade float attached to my boyfriend’s truck with his brother driving, and he was on the float with a costumed Winnie the Pooh and all his friends.  (I’m a serious Pooh collector) and he was holding a banner that read, “Winnie and I want to know if you’ll be our pooh for the rest of our lives.”  I almost jumped off the balcony, as I screamed YES over and over again.”

JULIA: – “My boyfriend and I were riding a Ferris wheel at an amusement park when we stopped at the top as it began letting people off.  Suddenly, from nowhere, he pulled out a miniature Champagne bottle and two small crystal glasses and slipped a ring on my finger.  Looking straight into my eyes, he said, “I’ll always be on top of the world, as long as I have you as my wife.”  I was so shocked, I almost fell off the Ferris wheel and I had thought he’d never ask.”

STELLA – “My boyfriend and I went to a party at his office and they were giving away raffle tickets to everyone who came in the door.  Towards the end of the evening, the deejay called out our names as winners of the raffle.  When we came up, he handed me a box of long-stemmed red roses and gave my boyfriend a small box.  When he took the box, he opened it, took a ring out, got down on his knee in front of his entire office, and proposed to me.  It’s a day I’ll never forget.”
