Katie didn’t trust men anymore. Everyone she’d known had left a lot to be desired. She had found them all to be either fickle, two-timing, or conniving. Her last experience had left her devastated when her fiancé` turned out to be an escaped felon and a con man. He had left town with the $5000 she’d given him as her half on a home they plan to purchase. Her spirit was sullen, as she sat watching the various men come in the door of the party and she resented the need that pushed her to want a man again.
Suddenly, she felt someone staring at her. She looked up into the eyes of a man who was standing across the room. Her heart leaped in her chest. His eyes were hypnotic as she began to stare unwillingly. He smiled slightly as if he understood what he was doing, and she returned his smile as if drawn by some mysterious force.
He was lean and tall, with ebony skin that glistened in the dim lighting. He nodded slightly toward the dance floor without taking his eyes off her, and she rose from her chair as if he had reached for her hand. The soft music embraced her as she walked slowly toward him. Someone called her name, but she could not stop. The other figures in the room disappeared in the shadows, as he stood with his hands in his pockets, waiting for her to reach him. She could hear herself breathing, as she prayed silently that he was as engaging as he was enticing.
Without a word between them, she slid smoothly into his arms as the music propelled them to move accordingly. His arms were strong, and she relaxed slowly as if destiny had finally placed her where she was intended to be. Suddenly, she no longer wanted revenge…she would try once again for romance.
