8 Ways To Sparkle

At The Party

It is well-known that a person’s actions and conversation are an important part of what makes them attractive.  It can make or break the prettiest pair of eyes or the handsomest face.  Here are eight tips on how to stand out and have others remember meeting you.

  1. Make it a practice to never say what you think a person wants to hear to impress them. Be natural and say only what you really mean.
  2. Don’t be corny. Don’t say things just to get a laugh.  Fun comments should come as a way to lighten up a conversation or showcase one’s personality.  Make sure your comic comments are humorous and not silly.  Don’t poke fun at others for the sake of a laugh.  If you must make someone the object of your humor, make it you.
  3. Don’t talk about you and how great you are or how much others admire you or…your latest achievements. Humility indicates greatness.  Let yours speak for you.  What makes a person really interesting is how much they leave out.
  4. Don’t be a show-off, who showcases his/her intelligence at every intake of breath by the listener. When you’re smart, it comes off natural in normal dialogue.  Big words are fine as long as they’re in context with the conversation, and not used to impress.  Real smartness is subtle not blatant.  Keep your conversation simple, but stimulating.  Strive not to be ordinary.
  5. Listen when another person is talking. Look them in the eye.  Be interested, or better still, look and act like you want them to when you’re talking.  Never look away as if you could be doing something better.
  6. Refrain from critical comments. Critical remarks should be made only in front of someone who knows you well and understands you.  Critical remarks in foreign territory can leave an ugly impression of you.
  7. Measure your speech and your words. Think quality while you‘re talking and let your words follow suit.  Relax, but strive to think before you speak, to ensure that whatever comes out of your mouth will be interesting, entertaining or significant.
  8. Never try to fit yourself into a conversation. Plunge in like you belong there, but charmingly.  Be confident that what you have to say is relevant and prove it.
