Unforeseen Circumstances

Mark had a dilemma. He had promised his girlfriend Sandy that he would take her away for the weekend and they were scheduled to leave in two hours.   However, he had just received an impromptu invitation to a formal party that night where all the who’s who would be in attendance, and he wanted to go…alone.

He didn’t want to take Sandy because he knew there would be loads of beautiful women there, and he didn’t want to be tied down all night to one woman.  He contemplated his next move.  He knew he had to come up with a good story to postpone the trip until the next day.  But he couldn’t think of one.  So, he decided to call her and say he was sick with an upset stomach and that they couldn’t leave until the next day.

After he hung up the phone, he felt bad about the sound of disappointment in her voice.  But he soon became excited about the party and its possibilities as he proceeded to brush off his tuxedo, which he always kept clean and handy in case he needed it. 

Thirty minutes later, his phone rang and he saw it was Sandy…but he had already planned to tell her in case she called that he was asleep and didn’t hear it ring.  However, his plan backfired when he walked out to get into his car thirty minutes later, and Sandy pulled up in the driveway.  When she saw him all dressed up, and on his way out she threw a bag of stomach remedies at him and drove off in a huff. 

Mark felt exposed and disgusted as he slowly returned to his apartment.  He ended up not going to the party after all because his stomach was upset.
